I will share with you some of the traditions that are a part of this day, the delicious food that we prepare, and the generosity that we show to others. The date of Eid is determined by the lunar calendar and can vary by a day or two depending on the sighting of the moon. In Pakistan our country, Eid is celebrated for three days, with each day marked by special prayers, feasting, and social gatherings.

The preparations leading up to Eid day

Another important aspect of Eid preparations is food. Families prepare traditional dishes and desserts to share with friends and family. Many families also choose to donate food and money to those less fortunate. In fact, generosity and giving to others is a big part of the Eid celebrations.

My family’s traditional Eid breakfast

In my family, Eid breakfast is always a very simple . We gather on table and slurped over to one of our staple dishes is Sheer Sawayan a delicious dessert made from vermicelli noodles, milk, sugar, and a variety of nuts and dried fruits. It’s a must-have on our Eid breakfast table and something we all look forward to indulging in after a month of fasting. With every bite, the sweetness of the dish adds to the already loving and joyous atmosphere.

Eid breakfast is not just about the food, but it’s about coming together as a family and celebrating the end of Ramadan. It’s a time to reflect on the month of fasting and to appreciate the blessings that we have in our lives. For us, it’s a tradition that we hold close to our hearts and one that we look forward to every year.

Dressing up in new clothes and the significance of Eid clothing

One of the most exciting aspects of Eid for many people is the opportunity to dress up in new clothes. It is a longstanding tradition to wear new clothes on Eid day, and this is a practice that is enthusiastically embraced by young and old alike. For many, the process of selecting the perfect Eid outfit starts weeks in advance, with careful consideration given to colors, fabrics, and styles. In some cultures, specific types of clothing are associated with Eid celebrations, such as the colorful shalwar kameez worn in South Asian communities . The significance of Eid clothing goes beyond just the joy of wearing something new. It is seen as a symbol of renewal, and an opportunity to show gratitude for the blessings in our lives however i always adopt a minimal approach for cloths etc, on this Eid i worn a shalwar kameez bought by my Ammi ,i paired with my old Dupatta with old sandals. Many people also use the occasion of Eid to give back to their communities. It is common to donate new clothes or money to those in need, so that they too can experience the joy of wearing something new on this special day. Overall, dressing up in new clothes is a beloved aspect of Eid celebrations, and one that brings people together in a spirit of joy and generosity.

The Eid prayer and its importance

The Eid prayer is one of the most important aspects of Eid celebration. It is usually held in the morning of the first day of Eid and attended by all Muslims who are physically able to attend. The prayer is usually performed in an open area or in a mosque, and it is a time for Muslims to gather together and offer thanks to Allah for all the blessings in their lives. The prayer serves as a reminder of the importance of unity in the Muslim community, as Muslims from different backgrounds and cultures come together to offer thanks to Allah. It is also a time for forgiveness and reconciliation, as Muslims are encouraged to make amends with anyone they may have wronged in the past.

After the prayer, Muslims will usually spend time with family and friends, sharing food and gifts to celebrate the occasion.

Our Eid feast and the traditional dishes we prepare for Dastarkhuwan

One of the most important parts of our Eid celebration is the feast we prepare. Dastarkhuwan is a word of urdu lamguage meaning a place or sheet for serving meal ,usually we eat or take meals on our dining table but on Eid we served these tradional feasts in a very traditonal way .We always make sure to prepare traditional dishes that are loved by everyone in the family, NO hot meal on Eid ul ftr, only fried, baked sweets , along with pudding, dry fruits etc . Sangza (spiral fried noodles , Chopatti (a special bread ),baked knots filled with dates and walnuts are main and must items that you will find at each house of any kaashghari/ turkish family. The purpose of Dastarkhuwan is only meeting and greeting with family and friends ,we visit 10 or more homes in a day so no one can eat heavy meals so serving savoury snacks is a best option to entertain the guests.

We keep our Dastarkhuwan open for everyone ,people come, meet, greet, eat and go.

Eidi ; A most awaiting time for youngers

Eidi, also known as Eidiyah ,is a popular tradition among Muslims. it is belived that the origins of Eidi date back to the middle ages when the caliph of fatimid Caliphate to give food, clothing,money and other presents to people of all ages on the day of Eid. Over time, the tradition has evolved and now it is observed within families and communities in various way, Although i m not a kid but still Eidi session is my all time favourite (taking not giving) hehe, and offcourse at this moment i am a rich person .

Eid is a complete family festival for us ,no cinemas no outdoor hangouts or Outside dinings etc.

Being the festival of joy and celebration , Eid brings about a lot of happiness in everyones lives,it serves as a reward to people who fast the whole month and enjoy on Eid like its their feast .So this concludes our post on the best thing about celebrating Eid ul fitr 2023 in pakistan , shared some common activities with some different muslims communities lives in pakistan , it would be great reading about your side.
