Be Mindful to your Mind — Honoring Mental Health Awareness Month By ROMANA

May is Mental Health Awareness Month — a gentle invitation to pause, reflect, and recognize something we often push aside: our mental and emotional well-being.

In a world that glorifies hustle, healing often becomes an afterthought. But here’s the truth — our minds carry so much. Mine does. And I know yours might too.Behind the curated images and the daily to-dos, I have had moments where my mind felt like a tangled forest. Anxiety that sat heavy on my chest. Days where getting out of bed felt like climbing a mountain. Overthinking that stole my sleep. Guilt that lingered even in moments of rest. And the quiet ache of loneliness, even in rooms full of people.

Mental health issues don’t always look like what we imagine.

Sometimes it’s not loud or visible. It’s functioning with a smile while breaking inside. It’s forgetting what joy feels like. It’s feeling emotionally numb, or everything all at once. It’s burnout disguised as “I’m just tired.” It’s depression wrapped in silence. It’s panic attacks in the middle of normal days. It’s intrusive thoughts we don’t talk about. It’s trauma we haven’t named. We’re not always taught how to cope. How to say “I’m not okay” without guilt. How to sit with ourselves without shame. But the truth is, mental health is part of our whole health. And it deserves our time, compassion, and attention — just like we care for our bodies, our skin, and our homes.

As someone who creates for a living — for people, for beauty, for healing — I’ve come to understand that self-care is not a product. It’s a lifeline. It’s not always a bubble bath or a balm. Sometimes it’s crying. Sometimes it’s canceling. Sometimes it’s therapy. Sometimes it’s medication. Sometimes it’s simply surviving. And that is enough.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, I want to hold space for:

The ones who are smiling but struggling.

The ones seeking help quietly.

The ones who’ve experienced loss, trauma, grief.

The ones fighting stigma — in families, cultures, or themselves. The ones healing slowly.

And I hold space for myself, too.

Healing is not linear. Some days I show up full of light. Other days, I show up just to breathe. I’m learning that both are worthy. I’m learning to rest without guilt. To speak about my pain without apologizing for it. To ask for help, even when I think I should have it all together. If you’re on your own mental health journey — whether it’s with anxiety, depression, PTSD, OCD, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, or anything else that lives quietly inside— please know this:

You are not alone. We’re with you.

You are not broken. You’re human.

You are not weak. You are doing your best. And your best is worthy of love.

Mental health is health.

It’s not a luxury, it’s not something to be earned, and it’s definitely not something to be ashamed of. It’s your foundation. And like all foundations, it needs tending — with rest, kindness, patience, and support. We know life gets heavy. Maybe you’re carrying silent battles that no one else sees. Maybe you’re the strong one in everyone’s life, and that strength is starting to feel like a mask. Maybe you’ve been surviving when you deserve to be thriving. Wherever you are — we see you. You matter.

This month, and every month, we invite you to:

Pause. Even for five minutes. Breathe deeply. Let stillness cradle you

Speak kindly to yourself. You are not your productivity. You are not your struggles. You are worthy of peace.

Reach out. Connection heals. A message, a walk, a call — small gestures can open big doors.

Seek help without shame. Therapy, journaling, support groups — these are acts of strength, not weakness.

At ROMANA, everything I make — every scent, every color, every brushstroke — is created to bring a little softness to your day. To remind us both that care, comfort, and calm are not luxuries. They’re essentials.Let’s continue to normalize mental health conversations. Let’s choose empathy over assumptions. Let’s be honest, tender, and brave — together.

This month, and always: let’s hold each other gently. And let’s not forget to hold ourselves too.

With love and light,

ROMANA
