Understanding Hair; A Comprehensive Guide to Hair Texture, Types and Needs
Today, We are going to be learning about Our Hair type, Texture & Needs. As we know many people cant identify there hair type ( I found out about mine, an year ago ). I used to think my hair could not be identified as 2b hair, that i will definitely be 2c but guess what, when i saw 2c, i saw the difference.
I hope this helps in identifying your hair type and texture.
We know how important it is to do so.
Our hair is as diverse as we are, and each type has its own needs and challenges. Let’s take a look at different hair types and how to address their specific needs.
The scalp’s ph is very similar to the skin on the rest of our body, it is around 4.5 – 5.5. The hair ph is slightly more acidic .Since hair’s ph is more acidic , haircare products with a ph between 3.5 and 5.5 are best suited for the hair.
Alkaline haircare products with the higher than 7 may increase the negative electrical charge of the hair cuticles, causing frizz and making it hard to smooth down the cuticles. Regular soap has a ph higher than 7 , usually between 8 to 10 ph, so regular soap is not recommended as a hair cleanser. In cosmetics , shampoo are formulated to have more acidic ph levels , so they are much more mild and gentle on hair than soap.
Now coming to our today’s topic

Understanding Hair Texture
There are three major types of hair texture. I started with hair texture because it is easy to identify your hair type once you the your hair texture.
Fine / Thin Texture
.Characterized by smaller hair strands .
.Often appears thin and lack volume. it can become oily or greasy very quickly , it also tends to become weighed down by products and breaks more easily than thicker hair.
.Needs lightweight products to add volume without weighting down
Medium Texture
.A balance between fine and coarse, and it is what most women have.
.Versatile and generally adaptable to various styles. It is also less prone to breakage.
.Required a balanced approach to care.
Coarse Texture
.Has three layers – the cortex, cuticle and medulla, and it looks fuller than fine or medium hair. Coarse is more tolerant than to other textures to things like heat, product and hair dye etc.
.Less to prone breakage but it can become frizzy in humid weather and takes longer to dry.
.Benefits from rich , moisturizing products to enhance shine and manage frizz.
